LIFE: One Day At a Time

It was 2A.M in the night and Sakshi was not able to sleep. She had tried counting numbers in her mind, tried reading a book she hated, tried meditation to calm her mind – but nothing was working. She checked her mobile and the Watsapp message was still being shown as unread. She got up almost throwing away her quilt irritably. Her eyebrows raised to an angle while she muttered under her breath. She was now getting desperate as to why her message which she had sent at 7 p.m in the previous evening was still unread. It takes just a minute to read someone`s message and reply to it and what on earth had she demanded? Why people are so inconsiderate? Why the hell did Watsapp introduce this feature of showing two blue lines when your message was read. Thumping her legs and scratching her head she switched on her room lights. Still unread.

Few days back; Sakshi had gotten very late in her office while finishing her work for the day, so she decided to stay at Rhea`s apartment (Rhea had been her bestie since 7th grade). Rhea`s place was very near to her office, so she decided to call her up. But before she could have dialed her number, Rhea`s name was flashing on her mobile screen. She picked the call on first ring. Rhea informed her that she was having some of her office friends at her apartment for some casual hangout and invited her to join. Sakshi told her about how she had been planning to call Rhea and already was planning to be at her place for the night. They laughed over it and Sakshi hired a cab to Rhea’s place

Little did Sakshi know that the night will change her life forever. She will realize a truth about herself a disorder.

Sakshi was an independent girl and  had been living alone for quite a few years. After completing her graduation she had come to Mumbai and joined a Financial Firm. Her parents were divorced when she was 7 and throughout her childhood she had been rolled like a dice between her parents. She never had many friends, in fact, if she had to name her friends, she could only name Rhea. From her office; even after working for the same firm for the past 6 years she only had some acquaintances. She never allowed anyone to get into her comfort zone. She had always been a reserved, average looking girl with a very basic fashion sense.

Sakshi was reluctant at first to go at Rhea`s place now but she was too tired to travel for another hour and a half  to her place and also she couldn’t  say no to Rhea.

So after 15 minutes, Sakshi rang the bell of Rhea`s apartment. The door opened and some guy  carrying a drink in his hand opened the door, and said “hello!!”. Rhea who was expecting her shouted from behind, “Hey! Sakshi come on in sweetheart. Raghav let her in yaar. She is my bestie.” To that Raghav raised his glass towards her and smirked. Sakshi came in almost ignoring his presence.  Rhea introduced her to the other people in the room which Sakshi had no interest in. After about an hour, Sakshi, feeling sleepy and tired told Rhea that she was going to get some sleep and that Rhea could continue with her friends.   She said good night to everyone (just because this comes under basic mannerisms) and went to sleep.

At about 03:30 A.M she woke up from her sleep.  She had been feeling some uneasiness. She moved towards the kitchen area, opened the Refrigerator and started searching for some dessert, noticed some left over ice cream and started gobbling it.

Meanwhile Rhea also came to the kitchen for some water and noticed Rhea having ice cream which looked weird to her, not because she was having ice cream but the way she was eating it. It was like some toddler trying to consume it but before it could actually reach her mouth, half of it dripped here and there. All her hands and clothes were messed up and in puddles of ice cream. She didn`t even notice the presence of Rhea.

Rhea called her name Sakhsi….Sakshi…
